Selected activities beyond the current corporate cybersecurity role.

Alongside his current role as Global Plants Cybersecurity Manager at Barilla, Fabio has contributed to European research and innovation projects, independent expert activities, selected public discussions and professional education.

These activities reflect a broader profile shaped by industrial cybersecurity, cyber risk governance, European security initiatives and the ability to work across technical, organisational and institutional contexts.

European research and innovation projects

From 2012 to 2018, Fabio coordinated research activities at Zanasi & Partners and contributed to international projects in security, intelligence and defence funded by the European Commission and European agencies. This included proposal preparation, project participation and work across programmes and organisations such as Horizon 2020, FP7, CIPS, PADR, ENISA and the European Defence Agency. Selected projects included FINSEC, PYTHIA, ScadaLab, SECRET, RECOBIA and SOTERIA, covering cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, intelligence analysis, crisis management and defence-related technology foresight.

Expert activities

European expert and reviewer activities

Fabio supports the European Commission Research Executive Agency (REA), the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC) with the evaluation of project proposals and the review of funded projects within the context of Horizon Europe and the Digital Europe Programme (DEP).

Selected speaking and public contributions

Selected public contributions include a workshop on cyber threats in the agri-food sector, organised as a side event in Ortigia during the G7 in September 2024; the talk “OT Cybersecurity: the Invisible Pillar of Asset Integrity” at the TÜV Rheinland Asset Integrity Conference in Manchester in December 2025; and the ItaliaSec panel “Step Pratici per Integrare la Sicurezza IT e OT per un Futuro Resiliente” in May 2026.

Teaching

Cybersecurity teaching and professional development

Fabio has lectured on OT cybersecurity for the training course for security professionals organised by Fondazione ICSA since 2021, contributing to professional education on industrial cybersecurity, operational environments and the protection of business-critical industrial systems.
